Two Palestinians killed in Gaza

Israeli forces have shot dead two people in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources say.
Officials said one member of the Palestinian security forces was killed in a gun battle with Israeli forces in the south, near Khan Younis.

One Israeli soldier was injured in the incident, an Israeli military statement said.

Medical officials said a Palestinian farmer died after being shot in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.

Israeli forces have been making regular incursions into Gaza since late June, following the capture of an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid by Palestinian militants.

The strip has come under heavy shelling and been largely cut off from the outside world.

According to B'Tselem, the Israeli human rights group, more than 350 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have been killed by Israeli security forces since the end of June.

Separately, the Israeli military said it had detained 20 Palestinians in overnight raids across the West Bank.

It said the detainees included members of the groups Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad.
