Bombing outside Afghanistan compound kills 18 Tuesday

Hydrant hit, water advisory issued

Herald Staff Report/Filed at 7:16 p.m. 9/27

SEABOARD - The town of Seaboard is under a boil water advisory due to an accident that destroyed a city fire hydrant and left many people without water.

Chief Fernard Henry said at about 4 p.m. this afternoon, a yellow cab pulling a silver or gray tractor-trailer smashed into a hydrant located at the corner of N.C. Highway 186 and Washington Street in Seaboard. The accident sent at least 3,000 gallons of water pouring into the street and affected water pressure throughout the town after maintenance crews shut off the valves.

“We need to issue a boil advisory effective until further notice,” Joey Barnes of the city's water maintenance department said. Residents should boil water at least one minute before using.

Meanwhile, city police and Highway Patrol continue to search for the driver of the trailer, who apparently fled the scene. He was last seen headed toward Murfreesboro.
